In response to a question from the Lanka Leader news website regarding the United States' provocative actions toward Venezuela, the Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka stated that Russia strongly condemns such actions. The full statement from the Ambassador is as follows:

“Lanka Leader News website: What is the Russian Federation's stance on mediation in the Caribbean region, particularly with regard to the United States?

Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mr. Levan S. Dzhagaryan:

We strongly condemn any provocation against Venezuela. It is clear to us what lies behind such provocations — Venezuela is rich in oil and gas resources.

Let me draw a parallel with the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003. That invasion occurred without United Nations approval. Even France and Germany opposed it at the time. It was an act of aggression: Saddam Hussein was removed from power and executed, and the U.S. sought to establish control over Iraq. This was a blatant violation of international law.

Today, the same countries that blame Russia conveniently forget about the actions of the George W. Bush administration in Iraq. This is why we stand firmly with Venezuela. We oppose and condemn any aggressive plans directed at Venezuela — whether they come from the United States or from other Latin American countries, particularly neighboring ones like Colombia.

In fact, many Colombian nationals are currently fighting alongside Ukrainian forces against Russia.
