Google CEO Warns Users Not to ‘Blindly’ Trust AI Tools

Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai has cautioned the public against placing unquestioning confidence in artificial intelligence systems, emphasizing that current models remain vulnerable to factual inaccuracies. Speaking in an interview with the BBC aired on Tuesday(18), Pichai urged users to rely on a variety of search and information tools rather than depending solely on AI engines.

Pichai noted that while AI can be valuable for creative tasks, users should remain aware of its limitations. “You have to learn to use these tools for what they’re good at, and not blindly trust everything they say,” he said, adding that even state-of-the-art systems “are prone to some errors.”

His remarks come as Google prepares to unveil its next major AI model, Gemini 3.0, expected by the end of the year. The Gemini line, launched in 2023, has faced previous criticism for overly restrictive safety and diversity constraints that led to inaccuracies in image generation, including misrepresentations of well-known historical figures.

Google has also recently faced legal scrutiny. Earlier this month, a lawsuit filed in a California federal court accused the company of enabling Gemini to collect user data without consent by allegedly intercepting communications across Gmail, chat, and video-conferencing services. Google has denied wrongdoing.

The rapid expansion of the AI sector has fueled soaring valuations and sparked concerns among industry observers about a potential investment bubble. Tech companies have poured massive resources into AI development as they compete with emerging platforms such as ChatGPT, which has challenged Google’s long-held dominance in online search.

Annual AI spending among major technology firms is estimated at roughly $400 billion. When asked whether Google could withstand a potential AI market downturn, Pichai was blunt: “I think no company is going to be immune, including us.”
